Endometrial Ablation

The variables specific to the menstrual period can noticeably reduce women’s quality of life and lead to various health problems. Endometrial ablation is one of the most effective treatment methods applied for women who have very painful menstrual periods with heavy bleeding. Endometrial ablation is a treatment method applied to women who have excessive menstrual bleeding, whose menstrual bleeding lasts longer than 8 days, who face the risk of anaemia because of heavy bleeding, and for whom removal of the uterus is not suitable. In this method, the inner layer of the uterus is destroyed by cauterisation. After this method, which is applied as an alternative to hysterectomy in women who do or do not wish to have children but who experience excessive bleeding, the patient’s uterus is preserved and the need for surgery is eliminated.

Today, endometrial ablation using the transcervical endometrial ablation (TCEA) technique, the most minimally invasive method/technique in endometrial ablation treatment, is performed under sedation. The procedure is completed in a controlled manner under ultrasound guidance. An electrode with a thickness of 5 mm is guided through the vagina towards the uterus. At this point, complete ablation or partial ablation can be performed according to the patient’s needs. In other words, the ablation area can be selected and menstrual control can be achieved. The technique also increases its advantages by having an advanced temperature control. The procedure is completed in a short time of about 5 minutes, and after the procedure the risk of side effects or complications is minimal. Unlike other treatments applied to patients with excessive menstrual bleeding, it does not require hospitalisation, and the patient is discharged after a two-hour observation at the clinic.
